Montly Poetry Challenge:: Cut-Up
Write a poem, of any length and subject matter and print it out (disregard the last part if you write your pieces on a notebook or whatever). Next cut out every word individually. After you've done that rearrange the resulting pieces into an entirely new poem, randomly if possible, experimenting with different phrases, line lengths, and juxtapositions to see what you can come up with...and most importantly get creative. As is the case with all challenges, if you feel the need for feedback don't hesitate to post it up in Poet's Corner when your done.

Nobody?
This is a pretty well known technique; popularized by Allen Ginsberg and also used for song writing purposes by some notable musicians like Nirvana.
Re: Montly Poetry Challenge:: Cut-Up
Sounds time consuming but I'll give it a go..
Re: Montly Poetry Challenge:: Cut-Up
Well it is a 'challenge' but,
you could also just use a poem that you've already written or posted. :)
Re: Montly Poetry Challenge:: Cut-Up
Word i thought about just doing that^
but they're too long for this.
which is a crazy challenge btw
i cant think of a way to change around
the words to make it make sense, without
giving the same message as the previous..
damn mantra haha
The raindrops sing,
With the rythm of thunder
As the subtle melody of lightning,
Tap dances through the atmosphere
Creating the perfect collaboration of flow
-A song by nature.
Think you could?
Re: Montly Poetry Challenge:: Cut-Up
Yeah I like it, I want to do one too but I haven't found the time.
And it doesn't have to necessarily make perfect sense. You might be over-thinking it and may be better to just randomize it and then edit out some of the extraneous stuff i.e. the, and, to, I, etc.
You could also use a text other than a poem, like a news paper article for example. Go through and read it, writing down all the interesting words. Then either arrange them randomly/purposely to make your poem.
Re: Montly Poetry Challenge:: Cut-Up
good thimg i looked in here
this seems very interesting
can i do this with haikus?
its the only poetry im writing now
Re: Montly Poetry Challenge:: Cut-Up
I thought about it, but it's really not enough to work with...having only a few words doesn't allow for many different arrangements. You're better off doing or using something more lengthy. There's just more possibilities and room to maneuver.
And even if you are only writing haiku, you can go the other route I suggested by using a newspaper or a magazine article rather than using your own poem. Just read through it and circle or write down any interesting words you see and then use them as your word bank.
Re: Montly Poetry Challenge:: Cut-Up
